Katsuya Kamo Exhibition ‘100HEADPIECES’
Katsuya Kamo, a maverick in the world of hair design, is active both in Japan and internationally. An exhibition, ‘Katsuya Kamo Exhibition ‘100HEADPIECES’’, offering a journey into his inner world, will be held from Saturday, November 2nd to Monday, November 18th, at Laforet Museum Harajuku on the 6th floor of Laforet Harajuku.

Photo Book and Delicate Headdresses Also Released
Katsuya Kamo has consistently created “beauty that defies convention,” unbound by traditional concepts of hair and makeup. A major exhibition focusing on his work, who has been involved in prestigious brands such as Chanel, Fendi, Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons, and Undercover for fashion shows, as well as fashion shoots for magazines, is now being held.
At the heart of his creations lies an imaginative world that precedes his exceptional technical skill. He has masterfully interpreted the thoughts of designers and creators, as well as the zeitgeist, to materialize distinct images for each moment.
Among his works are wigs expressing the shape of a brain with acrylic hair, hair and makeup incorporating vibrant bird feathers and insect specimens, and pieces that completely cover the model’s face with fabric. While employing techniques and materials that are unimaginable within the conventional boundaries of hair and makeup, he creates astonishing styles never seen before.
The exhibition showcases over 100 headpieces used in fashion shows and shoots. Furthermore, it recreates his atelier, the site of his creation, revealing all aspects of Katsuya Kamo’s work. Approximately 70 objects created in his private time and scrapbooks of collected visuals are also on display, recreating his inner world.
In conjunction with this exhibition, the comprehensive collection of Katsuya Kamo’s work, ‘KATSUYA KAMO ‘100 HEADPIECES’’, will be published, and a collaboration with Jill Stuart has also been realized, with 10 types of delicate headdresses to be released.
This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see recreations of works created for fleeting moments at show venues and shooting locations around the world. Using materials that could easily become grotesque, such as insects and brains, and employing bold motifs, Katsuya Kamo’s mastery in creating beauty captivates us.
