Original Drawings Adorned with His Signature Motifs
Keith Haring, known for his original works drawn with simplified lines, is recognized as an artist who colored the pop art of the 1980s, alongside Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. He first gained widespread fame for his graffiti on advertising boards in New York City's subway stations, works later known as "Subway Drawings."
He went on to undertake numerous social projects, including animations on billboards in Times Square and works painted on the Berlin Wall. He was also known as a social activist who campaigned for AIDS prevention and awareness, having contracted the disease himself.
This exhibition at Tezukayama Gallery features prints of original drawings that were part of Haring's debut solo show in New York. Described by Haring himself as a "time capsule of his New York period," these works were created with ink on high-quality paper in anticipation of later screen printing. They are adorned with his signature motifs.
This exhibition showcases major early works by Haring, who passed away at the young age of 31. We invite you to experience the prints and feel why Keith Haring became the "legendary street artist."
