Video and installation works from her early to recent periods

Fiona Tan was born in 1966 in Sumatra, Indonesia. With a Chinese father and an Australian mother, she spent her childhood in Australia before moving to Europe. Moving between these diverse cultural spheres, she has created works by digesting their complexities and layers.

In 1997, she released the documentary film "May You Live in Interesting Times," which followed her own family scattered by anti-Chinese riots in Indonesia. This work became symbolic of her cultural diversity. The seemingly unwavering images captured in photographs and videos are accompanied by narratives that oscillate between fact and fiction, presenting viewers with a succession of works that invite speculation. Her pieces are held in collections such as the Tate Modern in London.

This exhibition features "Seven," a monumental installation spanning seven hours that portrays the likenesses of seven individuals—a five-month-old infant, a twelve-year-old boy, a forty-year-old man, and a seventy-seven-year-old woman. Also presented is "Rise and Fall," an installation that uses two screens to show the flow of water from Niagara Falls alongside fragments of life from two women of different ages, evoking memories of time and life.

In addition, the exhibition showcases video, photography, and installation works from her early masterpieces to recent creations, including "Vox Populi," which compiles family photographs amateurishly shot in five different countries: Norway, Sydney, Tokyo, Switzerland, and London.

Across discontinuous timelines, Fiona creates poetic and serene spaces. It is an exhibition to be savored, engaging in a dialogue with the works.
