An exhibition of "1972～" by Kozoh Miyoshi, a leading Japanese photographer known for his work with large-format cameras. The exhibition will be held at Gallery 916 in Takeshiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo, from Friday, August 30th to Saturday, October 12th.

Exploring the Roots of Reflecting the World Through Photography


Kozoh Miyoshi has been photographing with large-format cameras from the same stance for many years. His work is characterized by beautiful monochrome photographs that strike a perfect balance between the elements of shooting and printmaking.
He has released numerous works, including "Somewhere, Sometime" (2007), a collection of photographs taken during his travels across Japan, and his Cherry Blossom series, which he began in 1998.

This exhibition features over 60 works selected by Yoshihiko Ueda, a photographer and curator at Gallery 916, from Miyoshi's extensive photographic output, including the series "See Saw" and "Conservatory," taken during his stays in America between 1972 and 1983.

Driven by the images in his mind, Kozoh Miyoshi's travels lead him to encounters that feel like destiny. The subjects he captures, standing with an air of serene acceptance of their fate, seem to emanate a palpable presence and breath, brought to life through meticulously crafted prints in a quiet monochrome world. This collection, which delves into Miyoshi's origins—his practice of "traveling with a camera, encountering subjects, and taking photographs"—is a must-see.
