Beyond the 52 Gallery Booths, a Variety of Special Exhibitions

Now in its 11th year, 'ART OSAKA' is an annual art event held at Hotel Granvia Osaka, featuring art displayed in hotel guest rooms and other spaces. This year, it coincides with the biennial'Dojima River Biennale'and'SNIFF OUT 2013,' a fusion of music and art festivals,coloring the city of Osaka with contemporary art.

This year, 52 galleries from Japan and South Korea are participating. Fifteen galleries will use two rooms each, exhibiting in a solo exhibition or special exhibition format in addition to their regular booths. Furthermore, there will be numerous smaller special exhibitions. The exhibition 'The Spirit of Gutai Today,' focusing on four artists from the Kansai region—Takeo Matsutani, Tsuyoshi Maekawa, Sadamasa Tōru, and Imai Norio—who were active in the Gutai Art Association, a group recently re-evaluated in Europe and America, will also be held.

In addition, 'ART OSAKA 2013' is launching a mutual exchange program for young contemporary artists between Japan and France in collaboration with 'Jeune Création,' a juried exhibition for artists under 45 with a 63-year history in Paris, France. Selected outstanding works from that exhibition will be displayed at the venue. Jérémie Chaugier, director of 'Jeune Création,' is also expected to visit Japan.

This art fair offers a chance to enjoy contemporary art in a unique setting, distinct from a museum, within hotel guest rooms. We hope visitors will casually enjoy the diverse and layered works and discover their favorite pieces during a relaxed gallery tour.
