Focusing on the Design Processes and Technologies Behind the Work
Algorithmic and generative art, among other system-based forms of expression, are gaining attention in the fields of architecture, design, and art. With the proliferation of computers and the advent of 3D printers, these methods, which intellectually shape intangible systems like impressions and memories, are transforming today's design processes and their subjects.
This exhibition is planned to focus not only on the output of works by artists and architects using digital technologies but also on the underlying design processes and technologies. By presenting the "space in between" – neither purely information nor purely matter – it aims to showcase new values of creativity.
The venue features works by 23 artists and architects from Japan and abroad, including AnS Studio, a unit that creates new forms of "richness" beyond manual craftsmanship by freely and delicately manipulating computers, and Akihiko Taniguchi, who records daily scenes through 3D scanning and publishes them on his blog, presenting works in various forms such as media art, net art, and sculpture. The exhibition's spatial design was handled by architect Toru Nishizawa, who is known not only for his architectural work but also for designing numerous exhibition spaces.
This exhibition brings together "objects" and "expressions" that have emerged from what was previously mere information. Through the processes and textures revealed by the convergence of works from these 23 artists, we will reaffirm diversity and discover new values.
