A Space Exploring "Yesterday" by Two Artists Who Skillfully Manipulate Human Perception
3331 Arts Chiyoda, which opened in 2010 utilizing the former Nensho Junior High School, houses art galleries, offices, and a cafe, serving as a gathering place for people of all ages. Imura Art Gallery Tokyo will now open its doors here.
For the gallery's reopening in this new location, artists Takaya Tsuchiya (born 1974), who works with visual art, and architect Kentaro Ataka (also born 1974 and an alumnus of Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School), were chosen to collaborate on an exhibition.
The exhibition "Where Did Yesterday Go?" features an installation that blends various media and techniques, including video, architecture, objects, and paintings, all addressing the process and passage of time leading up to the gallery's renovation and opening.
The accumulation of collected "yesterdays" is projected as video onto the gallery walls, overlapping with existing objects, paintings, and architectural elements. As these begin to interact, a curious intertwining of yesterday and today, a twist in the timeline, creates another world.
A space exploring yesterday, presented by two artists who skillfully manipulate human perception. When filtered through our uncertain and flexible perception and memory, it may not be easy to find a "yesterday" that should have been fixed.
