Monochromatic, Joyful, and Heart-Pounding New Paper Cutouts

Jad Fair formed "Half Japanese" with his brother David in 1974. Since then, they have released nearly 30 records, and their avant-garde music even captivated Kurt Cobain. And besides being a musician, Jad has another face: that of an artist specializing in paper cutting.

Fair has previously showcased his talent as a visual artist by designing covers for Half Japanese and solo albums. His simple, cheerful drawings and intricate paper cuttings have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, with art books published in Japan, the US, and elsewhere.

This marks Fair's first solo exhibition at Hiromart Gallery in two years, following his 2011 show. The exhibition will feature new paper cutouts that are both joyful and exhilarating, rendered in monochrome.

"For the past 20 years, my main focus in art has been paper cutting. Using scissors and an art knife, I try to create a feeling of positivity and happiness," says Fair. The pop and humorous paper cuttings he creates, like his music, are sure to captivate us with the stories that spill forth from them.
