A 15-Meter Mural Painting Created Through On-Site Production

Jose Parla's solo exhibition marks the grand opening of YUKA TSURUNO GALLERY, which has relocated to TOLOT/heuristic SHINONOME, a large-scale site for contemporary art and photography that newly opened in Shinonome, Koto Ward, this March.

Born in Miami, USA, in 1973, Jose Parla has gained international acclaim for his distinctive paintings that incorporate elements of language and writing. He has created murals in various locations, and his works are held in the public collection of the British Museum.

This exhibition, spread across two gallery spaces of varying sizes within the art space, features not only canvas works but also a 15-meter mural painting created through on-site production. A collection of his works will also be published to coincide with the solo exhibition.

Inspired by the walls that confront him, Parla rhythmically applies layers of paint and other media, his calligraphy-like writing imbued with a sense of physicality. These abstract journalistic and diary-like notations by Jose Parla will dive into our imaginations, beginning to weave a multitude of stories.
