Flat and Sculptural Works, Plus a Mural Created in San Francisco
Born in Tokyo in 1981, Ly is known for her paintings using black and white. Her character 'DIK' is an icon symbolizing "taboo, discomfort, disgust, discrimination, hatred, things that should not be seen, and things that should not be said." In recent years, she has also focused on murals and live painting, actively working both domestically and internationally.
She has consistently expressed herself within a monochrome world. However, the "gray" that emerged from a period of creative block and struggle, and which will be unveiled for the first time here, is presented as a "color of hope" that bridges white and "the black of hatred."
The venue showcases her newly reached artistic territory through canvas and sculptural works. Additionally, Ly's mural can be seen on the wall of San Francisco Peaks. Ly's creations are often cute, surreal, and mysterious. With the introduction of gray, her world has entered a new stage, and it's worth exploring.
