Photographs Approaching Humanity with a Multifaceted Approach
Born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1937, Yoshihiro Tatsuki graduated from Tokyo College of Photography in 1958 and became a freelance photographer in 1969. He has published numerous works, particularly snapshot portraits of women, and continues to be active at the forefront of advertising, magazines, and publishing.
While 'PIECE OF CAKE' colloquially means 'easy' or 'a piece of cake,' Tatsuki explains, "Photography is not an easy thing for me, so I included a sense of irony." The exhibition showcases a diverse range of his works, including his signature snapshot portraits of women and photographs from the wedding of Shuji Terayama.
"I tried to capture things that I was passionate about and perhaps infatuated with during certain periods. The exhibition cannot be confined to a single theme; the gaze and the eras are diverse. However, regardless of the type of photograph, they are all attempts to approach humanity with a multifaceted approach," says Tatsuki. Through his works, one can glimpse the history he has traversed and the philosophy that has guided him as a leading figure in the world of photography for so long.
