Selected as a Best Book by 'Photo-Eye'
Born in Berlin in 1974, Anne Schwalbe began her career as a photographer around 2000. She has garnered attention primarily in Europe in recent years, holding solo exhibitions at institutions like the Foam Museum in Amsterdam and independent bookstores in Berlin. In 2010, she self-produced and published 'Blindschleiche und Risenblatt', a collection that seemed to translate her serene aesthetic into print. The work was selected as one of the Best Books of the year by 'Photo-Eye' (an online magazine showcasing photography books from around the world), cementing her popularity with her unique worldview.
'ALLES', meaning 'All' in English, marks her first solo exhibition in Japan. This exhibition is a curated re-composition drawing from her entire body of work, including 'Blindschleiche und Risenblatt', where landscapes and everyday moments are meticulously captured; 'Wiese', a series documenting the grasslands around her home over many years; and her latest series 'Vulkan oder Stein', which focuses on organic motifs such as minerals and sand.
The artist herself will visit Japan for the exhibition. She will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, March 23rd, from 6:00 PM, and a book signing event will be held on Saturday, March 30th, from 3:00 PM.
Anne's photographs, which approach their subjects with an unpretentious intimacy, quietly offer us moments of stillness. We encourage you to discover the debut exhibition of this promising artist, whose work emanates from Berlin, a city currently drawing global attention.
