Distinctive Color Palette and Delicate Analog Nuances
Hanayo is an artist with a multifaceted career, known not only as a photographer but also as a geisha, musician, and model. She creates photographs and collages with her own fantastical color sense, and also works on installations that incorporate music and three-dimensional elements.
This exhibition showcases works from her latest photo book series, 'Berlin hanayos saugeile kumpels,' which documents the vast amount of daily life photos taken during her time collaborating and spending days with friends she met in Germany. The exhibition focuses on Berlin, a special place where she spent 11 of her 15 years living in Europe, and features photographs printed in various sizes, including previously unpublished works from the photo book.
The distinctive color palette and delicate analog nuances emanate from the color prints captured with Hanayo's long-favored Olympus camera. We invite you to experience the unique atmosphere, often called 'Hanayo-ness,' that gently links her portraits of artist and musician friends, everyday scenes, and abstract images, a characteristic consistent since her early works.
