Photo Book Release, Talk Events, and Signings
Born in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1966, Nagase made a striking debut in 1983 with Shinji Sōmai's "Shōben Rider." He gained international acclaim in 1989 with Jim Jarmusch's "Mystery Train," establishing a unique position at the forefront of Japanese cinema. Furthermore, he has demonstrated a deep understanding of music, fine arts, and art in general, having handled still photography for the 2001 film "Zekkyō na Hone" and released his first original photo collection.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Nagase's acting career. He has nurtured his connection with photography through exhibitions of portraits of people he's met over these three decades and projects deeply rooted in local communities across all prefectures, while also engaging in long-term endeavors.
While he has always carried an SLR camera and equipment, this exhibition showcases works created with Impossible Project's instant film, specifically designed for art. The photographs, taken in Tokyo, Taipei, and other locations, capture subtle changes within the ceaseless flow of time.
Additionally, a talk event featuring Masatoshi Nagase, art director Satoru Machiguchi, and curator Hisako Motoo will be held on Saturday, April 20th, starting at 6:00 PM. The capacity is limited to 40 attendees on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, please click 'Like' on the "IMPOSSIBLE TOKYO KK" Facebook fan page and send a message. To commemorate this exhibition, a photo book of the same title is scheduled for release in April, with a signing event to be held at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books on Sunday, April 21st, from 3:00 PM.
We invite you to experience a new facet of photographer Masatoshi Nagase, born from his encounter with Impossible Project's instant film, capturing the colors, textures, and interplay of light and shadow.
