Second Solo Exhibition in Japan Since 2011
Michael Macioce, who has photographed over 50 album covers, began his career in 1982 in New York's East Village. Known as a photographer who captured the downtown music and art scene, he photographed poets like Allen Ginsberg and painter Nancy Spero, as well as top stars of the time such as Sonic Youth. His work, including a series shot in Jewish neighborhoods starting in 1995, has been exhibited worldwide, further solidifying his presence in recent years.
This exhibition, his second solo show in Japan since his first at Hiromart Gallery in 2011, features portraits of the heroes of his time, which are among his representative works. The selection of photographs is based on the concept of 'Round Trip,' signifying things like round-trip tickets.
"I've always been fascinated by record jackets, and I've made photographs for them rather than making photographs and then using them for jackets. I want people to appreciate record jackets, which are also mandalas for listening to music," says Michael Macioce himself about the exhibition. We invite you to immerse yourself in the stories told by the portraits and jacket photos, curated with his unique sensibility.
