ART│The "Ultimate Home" That Serves as Both Cold-Weather and Emergency Wear

Philosophical Fashion 1: FINAL HOME Exhibition at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa

At the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, a new series titled "Philosophical Fashion" has launched, introducing creators who consistently propose fashion with a unified concept and prompting reflection on the roles of clothing and fashion. The first installment, an exhibition of the "FINAL HOME" project by fashion designer Kosuke Tsumura, runs until Sunday, June 30.

"When you lose your home, your clothing becomes the last thing that protects you."Based on this concept, the "FINAL HOME" project, meaning "ultimate home," was created in 1994 by Tsumura and others. The project features nylon coats that can be adapted to individual needs, such as becoming cold-weather wear when stuffed with newspapers, or emergency clothing when packed with provisions and medical kits for disaster situations.

At the venue, Tsumura presents an installation that focuses on everyday items in our lives, prompting a reconsideration of things often overlooked. Additionally, during the exhibition period, an artist talk will be held on Sunday, March 10, at 1:30 PM. From 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, a workshop will take place where participants can create a "flower puzzle" of hope, reflecting a wish to send smiles and love through "FINAL HOME" two years after the Great East Japan Earthquake.

In Japan, which has experienced unprecedented disasters such as the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake, Tsumura has consistently explored the relationship between fashion, society, and the environment through his mission as a fashion designer. This exhibition offers a chance to reconsider the "ultimate home" he envisions, as well as the connections between humans and clothing, and between urban and natural environments, through his installations.
