A World Beyond Genres: Music and Photography Born from Collaboration with Nakamura

Masashi Usai, known for his diverse activities including winning the Kimura Ihei Photography Award in 2002, album jacket designs for the rock band 'Quruli,' and the single 'Makoto Kawamoto and Ghost' created in collaboration with singer-songwriter Makoto Kawamoto. He has particularly produced works that transcend mere collaboration with musician Kazuyoshi Nakamura, who celebrated his 15th anniversary in 2012, through shooting CD jackets and art direction.

The culmination of this collaboration is the photobook 'Do Kyuso,' born from the resonance of music and photography, released alongside Nakamura Kazuyoshi's solo album 'Tsuitai Ongaku' in July of last year to commemorate his 15th anniversary.

Published in a limited edition of 700 copies by Usai's independent publishing label 'Taisho,' the photobook's title, 'Do Kyuso,' was derived from 'Do Kyuso,' which was conceived as the original title for 'Tsuitai Ongaku.' Featuring Beethoven's death mask, an heirloom of Nakamura Kazuyoshi's grandfather, and Nakamura himself, it creates a world that transcends the genres of music and photography, in tandem with 'Tsuitai Ongaku.'

This is an opportunity to see all the works featured in 'Do Kyuso' displayed together. Their exhibition offers a different perspective on the works compared to the photobook.
