Fuyuko Matsui: 'Dissipation'

An exhibition of new works by Japanese painter Fuyuko Matsui, titled 'Dissipation,' is being held at Naruyama Gallery in Kudanminami until Saturday, March 16. The exhibition features new pieces alongside seasonal works from her Nine Stages of Decomposition series.

Couture collaboration with Swiss-based designer Kaz Fugler also unveiled

Fuyuko Matsui is known for her meticulously rendered figures and animals. While inheriting the classical techniques of Japanese painting, her style, which evokes spiritual and physical 'pain' through artistic expression, has garnered international attention.

This exhibition showcases new works that, in Matsui's signature style, probe the fundamental aspects of human existence such as life, death, and sexuality. It also includes older works, such as her 'Nine Stages of Decomposition' series, which depicts the process of decay of bodies abandoned outdoors, inspired by Buddhist paintings.

Additionally, a couture dress created in collaboration with Swiss-based designer Kaz Fugler will be presented on Wednesday, March 13. (By appointment only; inquiries welcome.)

Matsui herself commented, "The Nine Stages of Decomposition can be seen as paintings that rephrase entropy. My own body is transformed into heat through friction with the air, changed by the vibrations of the earth, and dissipates. I am presenting a series of works that are like the prelude to the Nine Stages of Decomposition, emphasizing irreversibility and the inability to return to a former state."

We hope you will experience the quiet yet effervescent energy of the artist at the 'Dissipation' exhibition.
