A New Form of Portraiture: The "Misunderstanding Focus 16:9" Exhibition
The exhibition "Misunderstanding Focus 16:9" by Nerhol, an art unit comprised of Yoshihisa Tanaka, who conceives ideas, and Ryuta Iida, who carves them, will be held at FRAMED*SPACE in Omotesando from January 21 (Monday) to February 22 (Friday).

Portraits "carved" by utilizing the shifts and distortions in 200 consecutively shot portraits.
Nerhol was formed in 2007. The art unit, which has garnered attention for its creative output that leverages and elevates each other's fields—Tanaka from graphic design and Iida from contemporary art—will exhibit their latest portrait series, "Misunderstanding Focus."
The duo has previously presented unique sculptural works created through meticulous cutting on dozens, even hundreds, of sheets of paper. "Misunderstanding Focus" is based on 200 portrait photographs taken over a three-minute period. Through subtle shifts and movements during the shoot, distortions arise, which are then meticulously cut to express a new form of portraiture.
The strata-like layers reveal a glimpse into the subject's subconscious, carved from photographs. We invite you to immerse yourself in the unique world of Nerhol's creations, born from the novel concept of "carving the axis of time."
