DOMANI: The Art of Tomorrow 2013

Discussions and gallery talks will also be held during the exhibition.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs supports young artists by sending them overseas for training in their specialized fields. Since its inception in 1967, this program has seen approximately 2,900 participants across a diverse range of genres, including fine arts, music, theater, stage design, and film. Through practical training in various forms, such as at universities, workshops, and under the tutelage of leading artists, the program has contributed to nurturing the soil of Japan's art scene.

This year marks the 15th iteration of DOMANI: The Art of Tomorrow, featuring works by 12 artists who have garnered significant attention in recent years. These include Osamu Obi, who studied realistic oil painting in France; Masaya Yone, who has produced animation and experimental films in Estonia; and Jun Ito, who captured works contemplating the space between life and death in Finland. They will exhibit a wide array of paintings, photographs, sculptures, and installations that might not have been created in Japan.

During the exhibition, gallery talks featuring the participating artists will be held on Saturday, January 12th, Sunday, January 13th, and Sunday, January 20th, all starting at 11:00 AM. Furthermore, on Sunday, January 20th, at 2:00 PM, a panel discussion titled "Frank Talk on Overseas Training Experiences" will take place with the artists.

These 12 artists, who are poised to shape the future of art, have confronted their roots as foreigners abroad. Their works are sure to offer us, living in the present, new perspectives.
