More Captivating Expressions with New Gadgets

Tatsuo Miyajima, a leading contemporary artist in Japan, will unveil new works utilizing gadgets that take a different approach, delving deeper into the science of artificial life.

His previous works were based on three core concepts: "It continues to change," "It connects with everything," and "It lasts forever." Now, with the collaboration of Professor Koshi Ikegami from the University of Tokyo, an innovative digital counter has been created, further evolving these concepts.

Whereas existing digital counters have traditionally counted up or down according to a set of rules, the movement of this new digital counter is unpredictable, characterized by a random rhythm.

This gadget is said to change and adapt itself within its surrounding environment and relationships, much like a natural living organism, rewriting its own program as a new entity that transcends existing formats.

The artworks, composed of these gadgets, exhibit more complex, delicate, and captivating expressions than ever before. Representing a significant and innovative departure from Miyajima's previous works, which maintained a consistent speed of numbers, this evolution deepens and solidifies the artist's original concepts.

Miyajima's work has achieved an innovative leap with digital counters that possess fluctuation. We invite you to experience firsthand the moment new art is born.
