Van Gogh's 'Cypresses' to be Shown in Japan for the First Time!
To commemorate the renovation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, a selection of masterpieces from the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York will be exhibited. From Saturday, October 6, to Friday, January 4, 2013, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will host 'The Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibition: A Journey Through 4,000 Years of Beauty—Earth, Sea, and Sky'—A Journey Through 4,000 Years of Beauty.'Original music by Ryuichi SakamotoThis exhibition, eagerly anticipated with the creation of original music by Ryuichi Sakamoto, will feature numerous oil paintings by masters representing Western art, including Rembrandt, Cézanne, and Monet, alongside Van Gogh's 'Cypresses,' which will be shown in Japan for the first time.

An Ultimate Collection of Strength and Profundity
Nature, the 'universe' that surrounds us, has been an irreplaceable motif, forming the foundation of human creative activity since ancient times, both in the East and West. This exhibition, focusing primarily on Western art, explores this endeavor over the long span of 4,000 years. It vividly demonstrates how creators have reflected the culture and spirituality of their respective eras and attempted formal approaches to 'nature=the world,' a concept that is both ambiguous and shrouded in 'great mystery.' The stellar works scattered throughout the vast expanse of time express anew the diverse relationship between 'humans and nature,' brimming with strength and profundity.
