Andaz Tokyo Unveils Christmas Tree Incorporating Japanese Traditional Techniques
In the 51st-floor lobby area of Andaz Tokyo, a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree has appeared, born from a collaboration between French artist Marianne Gueury, known for her poetic papercraft, and Japanese traditional techniques. It will be on display until Friday, December 25th.

An Art Piece Adorned with Japanese Paper and Yuzen Carving
Marianne Gueury, inspired by the beauty and traditional arts of Japan during her visit to Andaz Tokyo, created this Christmas tree inspired by samurai armor.
The materials used are fine papers from "Takeo," a company that has contributed to the development and culture of paper for five generations. The stencils are carved by Takeshi Nishimura of "Nishimura Yuzen Carving," who carries on the Yuzen carving technique in Kyoto. Star and circular shapes covered in vintage gold fine paper adorn the tree, casting a soft light that creates a warm and poetic atmosphere.
Marianne Gueury commented on this collaboration as follows:
“At Andaz Tokyo, I encountered numerous traditional Japanese artworks using materials like natural wood and washi paper. I envisioned a Christmas tree for this space, adorned with fine paper covering a gently shining trunk and stencils featuring warm Yuzen carvings of pinecones and animals native to Japanese mountains.”
