Star Wars Art Exhibition: 'The Art of TSUNEO SANDA'

An exhibition of Star Wars art by Tsuneo Sanda, an artist licensed by Lucasfilm, the production company behind the Star Wars films, will open at Daikanyama Tsutaya Books on Saturday, August 29th, and run until Wednesday, September 16th.

The First Major Exhibition in Japan

Tsuneo Sanda hails from Osaka. While involved in managing an advertising design company, he began drawing original art in his spare time, marking the start of his career. He won an award at Japan's "International Science Fiction Illustration Contest" and has been creating cover art for the New York magazine 'OMNI' since 1989.

Subsequently, he began creating art depicting characters from 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars.' His talent was recognized by Lucasfilm, which commissioned him to produce Star Wars art posters and book covers. Many of the original works were purchased by director George Lucas, and a significant number of his pieces adorn the walls of Lucasfilm.

Since 2008, he has dedicated himself entirely to his art. In 2010, he began creating works as an official artist for Disney Studios, showcasing his international acclaim.

This exhibition marks Sanda's first major show in Japan, following his extensive career primarily overseas. The venue will feature over 10 pieces, ranging from rare works to his latest creations, all available for purchase. Each art print sold will include a personal autograph from Sanda himself.

For the past two decades, Sanda has crafted Star Wars visuals in his unique style, earning immense support from director George Lucas and fans worldwide. His intricate and delicate works are sure to captivate not only Star Wars enthusiasts but a broader audience as well.
