YMO 35th Anniversary of Overseas Expansion Event: 'YMO Instrument Exhibition 2014'
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Yellow Magic Orchestra's (YMO) international debut. The 'YMO Instrument Exhibition 2014,' recreating the instrument setups used during their early overseas ventures, will be featured as a special exhibition within the '2014 Tokyo International Music Market' held at Tokyo Big Sight starting Friday, November 21st.

Talk Shows by Affiliated Figures to Be Held During the Exhibition
Thirty-five years ago, in 1979, Yellow Magic Orchestra performed their first live concert abroad. The venue was the Greek Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater in Los Angeles, USA. There, they attempted a synchronized performance with computers on stage—an idea no one had conceived before. Through their pioneering technopop, they created a sensation not only in Japan but worldwide, leaving a significant mark not just on music but on various aspects of Japanese culture.
35 Years Since the Legendary Live Performance That Made History in Japanese Music──The 'YMO Instrument Exhibition 2014' recreates the instrument setup used on that legendary stage. Alongside the actual instruments from the performances, vintage models of those no longer extant have been gathered. Visitors can not only view the display but also hear the sounds that emanated from them.
Furthermore, during the exhibition, there will be talk shows featuring individuals connected to YMO, such as Haruki Maruyama, their stage technician who devised numerous devices, and Kenji Miura, who has photographed YMO from 1979 to the present. An exhibition of previously unreleased photos from their tours and guided stage tours offering close-up views of the instruments for purchasers of limited-edition pamphlets are also planned, providing opportunities to delve into YMO's history.
Why not experience this exhibition, which holds cultural and historical significance for understanding the evolution of music and technology, not just for YMO fans but for all?
