Kanako's Room
A Sunny, South-Facing Room
— How long do you plan to stay in Paris this time?
“There’s a saying that people who come on a working holiday often return to France…”
— It’s May now, isn’t it? They say this is the best season in Paris.
“I feel like I came back to Paris just to see this season again.”
— This year, the season seems a bit ahead of schedule, doesn’t it?
“A bit ahead. I wonder what will happen from now on. If it gets this hot, it’ll be tough.”

— I feel like there are a lot of people with hay fever this year, too.
“I’m feeling strange this year too. It’s not as bad as when I was in Japan, though.”
— It seems quite a few people are affected by acacia trees.
“But since we can’t live without opening the windows because there’s no air conditioning, it’s difficult, isn’t it?”
— Last summer was hot too, wasn’t it? Is your room south-facing?
“It’s south-facing. That’s why it gets so much sun.”

— But for drawing, is it better to have more sunlight?
“I think brighter is better, after all. It’s nice in the winter, though.”
— My place is south-facing too, but isn’t it hotter inside than outside?
“Yes, it’s really hot. Around this time, if you go out lightly dressed, it’s not that hot outside. Last summer, I really couldn’t get any work done.”

— I slept during the day and was active at night.
— Isn’t it hard to sleep during the day?
— I don’t drink much, so I’d stay up until around noon, then go to a cafe for a beer, and I’d get sleepy.
“How convenient.”
— Are you strong with alcohol, Kanako?
“I’m relatively strong. I even drink wine by myself.”
— They say beer is delicious, not to mention wine. And you can drink beers from various countries.
“But I prefer wine, really. You can keep it. Once, I got tired of buying bottles one by one, so I bought a boxed wine with a tap. That, I have to say, started to get sour over time.”
