Striving for "Evergreen"...

— I didn't want people to complete the collection.

One of the things I considered from the very beginning with the “BE@RBRICK” series we're introducing today was that I didn't want customers to aim for completion. I believe many people who collect character figures have a strong desire to “complete the entire set.” But for this particular character, I really “didn't want them to.”

The reason is that I felt that by making it that way, the “pipe” would inevitably become narrower. From the outset, I wanted to present the concept that it couldn't be collected. That's why we released some products as surprise guerrilla drops without prior announcement. Of course, this led to many customers being unable to obtain them, and we received quite a bit of criticism. However, what we repeatedly explained at the time was, “Please don't try to collect them. These are not meant to be collected.” Our intention was, “We want you to enjoy the items you personally like for a long time, in a casual manner.”

It's like love; if you understand everything about the other person, it becomes boring. I think it's better to have one or two secrets.

Currently, evergreen characters worldwide exist in a similar fashion, don't they? For example, collecting all the teddy bears in the world or all the Licca-chan dolls is quite difficult. When you think about it that way, I wanted to create a form that specialized in the joy of purchasing what you like, rather than the pleasure of completion.

We now also offer collection boxes, but we deliberately haven't included series names or numbers on the boards for this very reason. We want you to enjoy them by customizing them yourself and collecting what you love.

“BE@RBRICK SERIES 14”
This is a regular series of BE@RBRICKs, the so-called “blind box” type. Artists participate in the design for each release, and this time we are featuring Naruo Hamada (3rd Generation Uo-Tako) and Conrad Leach. It's amusing to see Oden-kun included.
Scheduled for release in June 2007 ■ 399 yen per item

— As I mentioned at the beginning...

I feel it's incredibly important to remain faithful to the initial impulse in everything. After all our discussion, I believe the secret to making things interesting lies in how well we can refine a flash of inspiration.

And the fact that this is possible is, I believe, what makes Medicom Toy such an interesting manufacturer. We have people who understand the “vibe” working here, which makes the job very smooth. Of course, we are also extremely grateful to our customers who understand this!

— And looking ahead...

Lately, I feel the depth to which we can step on the accelerator is only increasing. We have another project currently in development that is precisely that kind of initiative... It's a shame I can't talk about it... but please look forward to it.

Regarding BE@RBRICK, recent collaborations with Choro-Q and Licca-chan have been enjoyable projects. Licca-chan is a toy that has been around since my childhood, so it was deeply moving to be able to work together. And I was delighted that it was so well-received. We plan to release more such projects in the future.

Since “he” has the theme of being evergreen, we will be able to showcase him not only through collaborations but also in various other developments. Please look forward to it!

From next time, we plan to focus on our business activities and share them with you all. Please stay tuned!

“Yellow Magic Orchestra”
BE@RBRICK

A deluxe set of three figures: one designed by Yukihiro Takahashi in BRIX-MONO, featuring the white shirt and black pants from their world tour; another inspired by the red Mao suit from the jacket of their second album, “Solid State Survivor”; and a third in black attire, based on the uniform worn during their disbandment tour. Scheduled for release in July 2007 ■ 2940 yen

And… Good news from Medicom Toy!!
The legendary "Zōshoku" dolls are finally, finally here!

Released in 1980, their fourth album, “Zōshoku” (Proliferation), featured a memorable jacket with three dolls seemingly “proliferating.” In fact, these dolls were not generally available to the public, yet somehow a few found their way into circulation and are traded at high prices on online auctions. Now, after a quarter of a century, these elusive dolls are finally being brought to life and sold by Medicom Toy in December 2007.
This is all the information we have for now! We will provide further details as soon as they become available in this series.
