After childbirth and a hiatus, her long-awaited return performance premieres in Japan
Eva Yerbabuena, who established her position as a female flamenco dancer at a young age with her passionate performances backed by tradition and impeccable technique. In 1998, at the age of 28, she founded her dance company and, with her second work '5 Mujeres 5' (2000), created a new world of dance unbound by traditional flamenco movements.
Her 2009 work 'LLUVIA' (Rain) spectacularly opened the 150th-anniversary season of the prestigious Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, and in 2001 she received the National Dance Award, the Premio Nacional de Danza. She has also been invited to perform by German contemporary dancer Pina Bausch and appeared in Mike Figgis' film 'Flamenco Woman' (1997), establishing herself as one of Spain's leading contemporary dancers active worldwide.
This tour features the new work 'LLUVIA' (Rain), premiering in Japan, and 'De la Cava, Barro y Llanto' (From the Cellar, Mud and Tears), her highly anticipated return piece after her hiatus for childbirth, which premiered worldwide.
'LLUVIA' (Rain), described as an endless homage to life, explores the frustration and sorrow of incommunicability, culminating in a breathtaking soleá. The highly anticipated 'De la Cava, Barro y Llanto' (From the Cellar, Mud and Tears), which will have its world premiere in Japan, unfolds like a flamenco anthology, showcasing representative choreographies from her past works. It incorporates a contemporary perspective, expressing flamenco's vibrant music, choreography, and the dancer's innermost emotions with unvarnished authenticity.
Flamenco is an art form that continues to evolve. We invite you to witness the dance, a soul-stirring expression of her unique sensibility, with your own eyes.
