Diary-T 148: Ballet of the Sea

Words & Artwork byKoichi Kuwabara

Well done. Truly well done. Magnificent. Too magnificent.
I want to let out shouts of admiration and joy, like setting off fireworks.

The Port Spectacle series is wonderful.

I want to give "Ballet of the Sea" a bravo.

The ballet itself was, in any case, spectacular.

And the music, of course. It paints dreams. It paints beauty.

I want to applaud the spirit that creates a garden of joy.

Lately, I call myself an iPhone grapher, so naturally I went to take photos, but...
For the first time in my life, I was given a photo pass.
Thinking I could shoot to my heart's content, I was in for a surprise. But why do they act so superior, these ugly, arrogant photographers, especially the foreign ones and the old-guard Japanese cameramen who act like they're doing you a favor? I was utterly dismayed by their rudeness and arrogance.

If you make a living from beauty, serve beauty more. That's what I want to say.
I secretly wished they'd just become sea-wrack, but I gave even more applause to the hard work of the staff.
Mr. Kanamori really does seem to grow with every meeting. Amazing. And,
I intended to take photos, but the sheer beauty of the movement made me film it in 8mm video. It's a shame the image turned out blurry.
iPads can shoot HD, but iPhones only shoot standard for some reason.

I'll try editing it easily from now on. I hope I can at least convey the mood.

Shooting photos and videos is exciting, but

I'm reminded that nothing surpasses the dynamism of what's happening right before your eyes.

After all, true emotion is only found in live experiences. They say they wish they had two bodies. Is that so?

The main performance footage will follow. Please wait a moment.

To be continued.

Theater Products' Onboard Fashion Show
"Ballet of the Sea"

Music: Kōtarō Abe
Ballet Choreography: Yuko Okubo

A site-specific fashion show created by the fashion brand "Theater Products" on the symbolic Yokohama sailing ship Nippon Maru. Guided by the live performance of a new ballet suite by Kōtarō Abe, ephemeral ballet performances emerge and disappear throughout the ship, which is full of stories, from the brass staircases and the deck polished with coconut husks to the chart room with its compass and the ship's classrooms.Invited by the romance of travel and the tales of the sea, clothing and dance are born here.
