A Special Song for Sayaka Aoki: "The World's Best Mom" (1)
"Kiiroi Koinu" (Yellow Puppy), a variety show for the Tokai region, began airing on Chukyo TV in April 2009. It airs every Saturday evening. Thanks to its high ratings, it has smoothly entered its second year. The MCs are Sayaka Aoki and myself. Having her, who is from my hometown of Aichi Prefecture, was one of the main reasons I accepted this job. She used to come to my plays often, and I had always wanted to work with her in some capacity. So, when I was offered the chance to be a co-MC, I was unexpectedly delighted.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm always by your side.
Another reason I accepted this job was that the production team understood I would have periods where I couldn't appear. The show is broadcast live on Saturdays, but I also have stage commitments. During intensive rehearsals or performances, especially when there were two shows on a Saturday, I would be unavailable. I couldn't have asked for a more accommodating arrangement! This is how I was able to secure my seat as an MC for "Kiiroi Koinu."
This year, I had to take time off at the beginning of the year for my one-woman show, "Naniwa Butterfly N.V." While this was anticipated, my co-MC, Sayaka Aoki, became pregnant around the same time. She went on maternity leave for preparation and after giving birth, resulting in both MCs being absent simultaneously. However, the understanding staff at Chukyo TV, along with the "Koinu Family"—Hidehiko Ishizuka, Kanako Yanagihara, and Ayako Imoto—and the entire cast and crew, supported the show. I am truly grateful!
Our "Kiiroi Koinu" team, like last year, broadcast live from Sakae for the NTV's 24-hour television event, under the blazing sun. Last year, Sayaka Aoki participated in the recording while heavily pregnant. Watching her, I was constantly worried! Seeing her determination, I was moved to tears. It was around this time that I began to think I wanted to give her a gift when she returned to the show after safely giving birth, having watched her work ethic so closely.

A Surprise Gift During the Live Broadcast!
After much thought, I decided a song would be more fitting than a material gift. I wanted to create an original song to praise Sayaka Aoki's efforts, so I immediately consulted the show's staff, and it was decided! I wanted a Nagoya-based artist for the music, so they introduced me to Sonar Pocket. With that settled, preparations began! Starting last year, I communicated my feelings to Sonar Pocket, we aligned our vision, and began composing. I wrote the lyrics in prose, and Sonar Pocket refined them. After numerous email exchanges and meetings, the song was completed and titled "The World's Best Mom."
The recording was successfully completed, and the song was put onto a one-of-a-kind CD. Sayaka Aoki safely gave birth to a baby girl. On the day of her return to the show, June 12, 2010, we had a fake meeting and then a surprise during the live broadcast! We changed the set for Sayaka Aoki, and along with Sonar Pocket, we presented the song live. We rehearsed multiple times with the staff from the morning, and the song performance on the show concluded with great emotion. Sayaka Aoki was also moved to tears, which made me incredibly happy.
I also performed this song at a live concert in June this year. It resonated with many women, and there were many requests for it to become something more, perhaps a new type of support song. I hope that can happen someday. I wish for it myself. Working in my hometown is quite enjoyable. The distance between Nagoya and Tokyo feels just right. I also frequently eat Miso Nikomi Udon (laughs). I'll continue to work flexibly!
"The World's Best Mom"
01.
"I'm pregnant! But I'll keep working!"
I was happy, but I was actually very worried.
You're always considerate of others, thinking, "I can't be a bother..."
You tend to overdo it, that's why I was worried.
Your belly grew day by day,
Your serene smile was radiant. You were beautiful.
Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm always by your side.
Don't push yourself too hard. You can always show your tears.
The world's best mom, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.
Lean on my shoulder when things get tough. You have a place to return to. It's okay.
02.
All I could say was, "Are you okay?"
It was frustrating how powerless we felt.
There must have been tough times, times you wanted to rest.
I'm sorry I could only rub your back.
Everything was new.
You can surely overcome any confusion or anxiety.
Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm always by your side.
Don't push yourself too hard. You can always show your tears.
The world's best mom, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.
Lean on my shoulder when things get tough. You have a place to return to. It's okay.
Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm always by your side.
Don't push yourself too hard. You can always show your tears.
The world's best mom, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.
Lean on my shoulder when things get tough. You have a place to return to.
Don't worry, you're not alone. I'm always by your side.
Don't push yourself too hard. You can always show your tears.
The world's best mom, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.
Lean on my shoulder when things get tough. You have a place to return to. It's okay.
