Cooling Down Tokyo with Refreshingly Crisp Music

This time, we presented six refreshingly crisp tracks to help everyone spending their summer in Tokyo cool down, even just a little, through music.

Brother Ah & The Sounds Of Awareness
"Key to Nowhere"

Fetsum "The Colors Of Hope"

Cassandra Wilson "Another Country"

Robert Northern, known as "Brother Ah," a flutist and French horn player who has performed with numerous jazz greats such as John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Donald Byrd, and a member of Sun Ra's Arkestra. At the beginning of the program, we played "Sekou" from his 1983 cult album, a track featuring a very soothing kalimba and berimbau. Following that was "Letters From Damascus," an Afro-folk piece by Fetsum, a rising Afro-German singer-songwriter, and the latest work from Cassandra Wilson, a solitary female jazz vocalist who has exuded a powerful aura for many years. The first half of the program was delivered with a spiritual mood.

Paulinho Da Costa "Happy People"

Al Johnson "Back For More"

Natalie Cole & Peabo Bryson
"We're The Best Of Friends"

The latter half picked up the pace with "B'wana-he No Home," a Latin-infused track featuring Michael Franks, a representative AOR vocalist, and Brazilian percussionist Paulinho Da Costa, featuring Bill Champlin from the former band Chicago. This led into "Tonight's The Night For Love" by soul vocalist Al Johnson, a medium-tempo track with a sexy, restrained rhythm produced by urban soul master Norman Connors. Finally, the program concluded on a mellow note with Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love," a duet by Natalie Cole and Peabo Bryson.
