“Air Conditioning” Through Music
A “quiet music movement” for adults is taking root in Japan. This week opens with a new release from the Brazilian duo Renato Motha & Patricia Lobato, who can be considered the instigators of this movement. Following that, we feature “Obsession” from the instrumental album recorded in Brazil by guitarist Goro Ito, who consistently delivers high-quality music, including his recent productions for artists like Mousseshill, Naomi & Goro, and Tomoyo Harada. This track is sure to be a refreshing balm during this season of high humidity and often melancholic moods.

Interspersed with topics, the latter half of the program introduces two new and old works of "blue-eyed soul," showcasing a deep love for roots music. In particular, Robert Palmer's "Every Kinda People" is a favorite, carrying a message that resonates with the present era.

Tracing the Path of Dancer Pina Bausch Through Film and Music
Pina Bausch, the legendary German dancer and choreographer, passed away suddenly in 2009. Her unique dance, which incorporates theatrical elements, continues to captivate a global audience even after her death. A memorial performance tracing her journey, comprising a film screening and a tribute concert, will be held on June 30th, her death anniversary, at the Shinjuku Bunka Center Main Hall, where she performed during her lifetime. The concert will feature many artists, including the musician Jun Miyake, with whom she shared a deep friendship, the Bulgarian Cosmic Voices Choir, and Lisa Papineau. The program also includes a screening of Pina's masterpiece "Café Müller," recorded in May 1985 at the Wuppertal Opera House in Germany. This evening, designed for intellectually curious adults, promises to be enjoyable even for those not already familiar with her work. We encourage you to attend.
