A Funky Night of World Music and Brass Bands



On a Sunday night, a personal moment of bliss, flowing gently with exquisite music, is a supreme pleasure for adults. This is the time that DJ Toshio Matsuura's radio program, 'TOKYO MOON,' enriches even further.──Each Sunday, he airs a selection of wonderful music from around the globe and topics to stimulate intellectual curiosity for adults, from 7 PM on Inter FM 76.1MHz. Here, we look back at the program that just aired each week. This week was a vibrant night, packed with a rich tapestry of music that transcends genres.

Featuring the Debut Release from Yohei Miyake's New Band!



This episode presented a condensed 30-minute journey through world music and funky brass band tunes from various countries. The first half featured German ensemble Juju Orchestra, Kojato (a new Afro-jazz unit by members of the Bahama Soul Club), and Ethiopian jazz from Austrian-based German producer/DJ Sam Irl. The latter half included an Afro-Latin number by the Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars, a band formed by refugees from the civil war in the small West African nation of Sierra Leone, and the debut release from (tentative name) Albatrus, Yohei Miyake's new alternative blues-tinged band, formerly known as 'Inu Shiki.' Sandwiched between these were brass band covers of tracks by U.F.O. and The Prodigy, creating a lively atmosphere for an early summer night.
