Diary-T 164 Tekutobo

Yesterday was, in retrospect, a most ill-timed day.
Perhaps it was because I was already struggling with a loose stomach that had persisted for two or three days,
and I had deliberately chosen to skip lunch in preparation for an evening engagement.
I simply couldn't muster any strength in my core.
Perhaps a loose stomach is precisely the sign of being unwell.
But that's beside the point. The catalyst was being entrusted with the direction of a revival program for Snakeman Show.
Although it was a sudden decision, I decided to express the feeling of the three of us working together through our uniforms.
And, wanting to recapture the mood of that era, I decided to make the double-breasted suit I wore as a uniform back then my uniform once again.
Then, Taishi Kunitomi came to mind. It was because, during a recent interview for Dictionary, I recalled him mentioning his mastery of tailoring.
And that intuition was spot on; thanks to him, I rediscovered the allure of the double-breasted suit.
However, the second suit I ordered, carried away by my enthusiasm, was a misstep.
The reflection in the mirror made me look like a dim-witted politician or a character from a certain TV show.
The realities of one's life manifest in one's appearance. But one must not be defeated by such things. My competitive spirit is a Sagittarius trait, Kunitomi told me. And so,
Of course, I wouldn't be defeated by a suit, but there are certain unbearable feelings within the human heart. My foolishness, though I vow never to utter such words again,
I wanted to re-experience the thrill of that past era,
and, with more ambition than sense, I visited the tailoring salon he had just opened.
There, I encountered a dapper gentleman of tailoring, who, with a cool demeanor, wore an apron over his vest.
He welcomed me with a smile and the soft beats flowing from a vacuum tube amplifier, my stomach still unsettled.
A world of 'Is this what men call a hobby?' unfolded before me, just the right amount.
There, we ran our fingers over fabric swatches, exploring and discussing the possibilities that awaited me in the future.
And, as if Kunitomi's suggestions hit the mark,
'Mr. Shoichi, you're ultimately a selector, aren't you?' The conversation had already drifted into barber shop talk.
But my rumbling stomach wouldn't allow it, and the thought arose, 'Shall we go eat soon?'
Unfortunately, as luck would have it, Kunitomi also had a sudden appointment,
and our planned dinner reservation in Ginza was reset, sending me back to Shibuya from Ginza.
We met again an hour later and had dinner, but my stomach condition was at its worst.
Neither the new white nor red wine, nor even the sparkling, could be tolerated.

Moreover, the next table was occupied by four Frenchmen – they drank, ate, talked, and laughed boisterously, like a scene from Paris!
'Ah, today is just not my day...' As this downer mood settled in,
Kunitomi's serious philosophical discourse began to fade in.
He's a diligent student, and no matter when or where we meet, his topics invariably revolve around religious philosophy.
Last night's conversation even veered into his past lives, plunging us into a bizarre mystery zone.
Does a downer aura amplify such dark thoughts? What do you think?
Still, Kunitomi's stories are incredibly insightful. I nodded in agreement.
And what's more, my unsettled stomach seemed to cloud my thoughts, making everything feel fuzzy and unfocused.
I had intended to wrap things up early tonight, but somehow, it dragged on until midnight.
As we said our thanks, the elegant madam remarked,
'This is the first time you've eaten so little since you started coming here, isn't it?'
Her observation was entirely accurate. After bidding farewell to Kunitomi,
I walked home with Tekutobo.
Ugh, please, take care of your health above all else.
And so, the event concluded.

I had been invited to this event that night. What a shame.
I am always grateful to nik from PROGRESSIVE FOrM.
Unusually polite for these times, or rather, he's meticulous about his bows.
I may not belong to the entertainment industry, but watching nik's demeanor is refreshing.
He possesses a unique social etiquette, a sense of propriety that is admirable.
I dislike the word 'adult,' but I feel a sense of respect for nik's commitment to his work.
When embarking on something new, those who understand these principles tend to grow significantly,
while those who don't often fade away after a brief moment, don't they?
Politeness is more important than you might think, young people.
In other words, those who are confident in their future are polite.
So, to the main point: the white label CD he sent me was excellent, so
when I asked for more details, I received a polite reply.
Thanks to nik.
