Diary-T 98 Thousand Words
Yukiko Sawabe / temp press
At the letterpress workshop of Toppan Printing's Museum of Printing, I participated in a letterpress workshop and engaged in archival work. I received direct instruction from numerous letterpress artisans to learn their techniques and history, focusing on the preservation and transmission of these skills. Afterward, I worked at a graphic design firm before launching temp press, a product brand centered on typography and an archival project for letterpress printing.
The beautiful print of the exquisite characters I received from Sawabe-san was regrettably...
I, myself, 'iphonegraphed' it.
But this is my way of showing respect to Sawabe-san.
Just as cut-ups and sampling question whether there is love involved,
I intended this as my own form of respect for Sawabe-san's original work.
If my expression has caused offense to Sawabe-san, I apologize.
ART PICNIC Vol. 5 has concluded successfully.
The event celebrating the first anniversary of Dictionary Club, filled with many encounters and inspirations,
has ended.
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated.
I truly feel we are undertaking something challenging. Of course, this is not a new sentiment,
but I want to take this opportunity to thank the staff who support me once again.
Though it may sound like an excuse, among those of you who visited us during these three days,
Perhaps it's arrogant, but I believe there was indeed something exciting,
something that could only be experienced at Dictionary Club.
In the sense of being priceless,
I have always felt a responsibility for continuing this free paper for twenty-three years.
In other words, the fact that we have been able to continue this far,
and that this event was able to conclude successfully,
is entirely thanks to the enthusiastic support from everyone who participated.
However, I intend to change our approach slightly going forward.
From now on, I want to avoid free events as much as possible.
This will be the last time performers participate without any compensation.
Anything that cannot be established as a paid event, regardless of how small the fee,
I intend to cease entirely, including voluntary contributions.
Participating by paying a fee.
I want to carefully reconsider events like these.
Seeking sponsorship is acceptable, but I will not compromise my principles for corporations.
I want to thoroughly consider a methodology that differs from what we've done so far.
