A Noteworthy New Artist Emerges from the Dubstep Scene

James Blake

James Blake's first album was released just yesterday, February 7th (Monday). Although only 21 years old, since his debut two years ago, he has released hits like "CMYK" and "Klavierwerke." Last autumn, his cover of Feist's "Limit To Your Love," on which he sings the vocals himself, became a major hit. He has emerged from the dubstep scene, captivating techno, electronica, soul, rock, and even jazz circles, and his popularity is rapidly rising. We focused on him, introducing the aforementioned hit song from his album, as well as "The Wilhelms Scream," which was broadcast on Inter FM for the first time. His introspective and delicate sound, reminiscent of trip-hop and the Bristol sound of the mid-to-late 1990s, pioneered by artists like Massive Attack and Portishead, is already being hailed as one of the best albums of 2011. While he is still known only to a select few here in Japan, we would be delighted if this introduction leads more people to discover and enjoy his music.
