"Films of City Frames," launched in March of this year, was realized through Armani's vision to "support young talent in the film industry and connect Giorgio Armani with the world of cinema through the lens of eyewear." The project supports aspiring directors studying at film schools in the United States (New York University and the University of Southern California), Paris, London, Rome, and Hong Kong. They capture urban landscapes and emotional scenes in short films through "Armani" eyewear. Paolo Sorrentino, director of "The Great Beauty," winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2014, also fully supports this project.
Edward Zwick, who co-hosted the world premiere with Roberta Armani, commented, "I am delighted to participate in a project that supports emerging filmmakers alongside Giorgio Armani. I can't imagine a more interesting 'intersection' than film and fashion!" A panel discussion was also held, hosted by Imran Amed, the proprietor of the cult online publication "The Business of Fashion."
The world premiere concluded with a cocktail party attended by distinguished guests including Denzel Washington, Jessica Chastain, and Chloë Grace Moretz. Held at the CN Tower, an iconic symbol of Toronto standing 553 meters tall, the event concluded with great success, accompanied by the grooves of world-renowned DJ Mark Ronson.
The short films created by students from participating schools are now available on the special "Films of City Frames" website (http://framesoflife.armani.com/films-of-city-frames/). The "Walls of Frames" section also features viewer voting.
