The Panther: Captivating Iconic Women Through the Ages
The panther motif, meaning 'leopard' in French, first appeared at Cartier in 1914. It was incorporated into jewelry watches, with the characteristic spotted pattern rendered in diamonds and onyx. In the same year, founder Louis-François Cartier commissioned a design sketch featuring a panther for an exhibition invitation, which later became a symbolic element in the maison's advertising.
The panther has captivated many striking and beautiful women. The first among them was the wife of the Duke of Windsor. In 1948, she famously purchased a Cartier clip brooch featuring a diamond panther with onyx spots on a 116.74-carat emerald. Subsequently, socialites and actresses such as Barbara Hutton, Princess Nina Aga Khan, Daisy Fellowes, and María Félix became clients of the maison, drawn to the allure of the panther jewelry.
On September 5th, new pieces were unveiled for the "Panthère de Cartier" jewelry collection, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. A hallmark of these creations is their playful, modern design, achieved through meticulous settings by skilled artisans. The precise calculation evident in every detail, from the panther's outline to its body lines, is truly remarkable. This collection features rings, necklaces, and more. We invite you to experience this commemorative jewelry, designed for women of all ages and diverse lifestyles, at our boutiques.
