EXCLUSIVE for JOURNAL STANDARD

A Powerful Collaboration Between a Swimwear Brand and a Traditional Men's Outfitters
reyn spooner

Founded in 1962, "reyn spooner" was born from a joint venture between "Spooner," a swimwear brand, and "Reyn's," a traditional men's outfitter, to manufacture and sell aloha shirts suitable for both casual and formal occasions. At the time, Spooner was highly regarded not only in Hawaii but also by surfers on the US mainland, while Reyn's was recognized as "the Brooks Brothers of the Pacific."

Inspired by the worn-out shirts of surfers, they adopted the "reverse print" technique, using the printed fabric inside out. For the fabric itself, they developed and trademarked their unique "Spooner Cloth," a blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester, specifically for reverse printing. It is characterized by its durability, wrinkle resistance, and ease of care. Furthermore, by finishing the button-down shirts as pullovers, they proposed a new style of aloha shirt. As an item that overturned conventional concepts, it quickly spread and established itself as a status brand for aloha shirts. In Japan, it gained popularity during the surfing boom of the 1980s and is now supported by a wide range of people worldwide.

For JOURNAL STANDARD, we have created exclusive items: a shirt jacket made from a classic fabric and knee-length shorts. They can also be worn as a set for a trendy look.

A Long-Established Shirtmaker Favored by U.S. Presidents
INDIVIDUALIZED SHIRTS

In the 1960s, a time when the Civil Rights Movement, student protests, and the anti-Vietnam War movement were gaining momentum, and America was filled with energy for a new future, "INDIVIDUALIZED SHIRTS" was born in 1961 in the port town of New Jersey, the same year the young politician J.F. Kennedy, symbolizing that era, became president. At a time when mass-produced ready-to-wear clothing was becoming widespread in the apparel industry, the company was founded as a specialist manufacturer of custom-made shirts, offering the finest comfort tailored for each individual. Its name spread throughout the country, and it remains the number one custom-made shirt manufacturer in the United States today. Its list of clients includes celebrities such as past presidents, Hollywood stars, and athletes, making it a truly representative American brand in both name and reputation.
