The Legendary Print Dedicated to Grace Kelly, Reimagined for Today
Introduced in the Fall/Winter 2012 season, the "Gucci Nice" line, as its name suggests, draws inspiration from the relaxed atmosphere of the French Riviera. Its appeal lies in its effortlessly chic and laid-back style. The elegant silhouette, fresh color palettes, and the use of lightweight canvas materials contribute to its design's appeal, offering a sense of ease.
A distinctive feature is the design of the leather handles, numbered "1, 2, 3," reminiscent of horse reins, and the metal details inspired by spurs. Just as the signature "Horsebit" icon draws inspiration from a bridle, these designs originate from Gucci's heritage, deeply intertwined with equestrianism.
The new "Gucci Nice" collection, arriving this January, is adorned with the "Flora" print, another iconic motif from the brand's history, featured on bags and wallets. The contrast between the vividly depicted delicate botanical art and the purple lining is striking. The collection offers items full of fresh charm, perfectly suited for the spring and summer season.
The "Flora" print, born in 1966, was originally designed exclusively for Princess Grace of Monaco. When Prince Rainier visited Gucci in Milan, Rodolfo Gucci, then head of the company, commissioned artist Vittorio Accornero to create a silk scarf with a floral motif as a gift. Thus, the drawing of flowers and insects, rendered with rich colors and delicate strokes, came into being.
Based on Accornero's drawing, Creative Director Frida Giannini introduced a new interpretation of "Flora" in 2012. This contemporary "Flora" features a graphic interplay of vividly colored flowers and the outlines of flowers drawn in monochrome. The modern "Flora," a contemporary take on the traditional pattern, has appeared on various items, including scarves, canvas bags, and shoes. This marks its debut as a leather goods collection. The new "Gucci Nice" collection, embodying the brand's heritage, will be available from January at all Gucci shops nationwide and online.
