A Rich and Glamorous Masterpiece That Mysteriously Adorns a Fantastical Christmas Eve

The Roaring Twenties──With the end of World War I, Europe's cities brimmed with vibrancy, marking a golden age for various cultures. Women's fashion underwent a dramatic transformation, with new styles featuring shorter skirts, epitomized by the Chanel suit, becoming all the rage. In perfumery, 1922 saw Chanel launch No. 5, followed by the release of "Nuit de Noel" the next year, truly a golden era for fragrance.

Ernest Daltroff, the founder of CARON and creator of numerous hit fragrances, was raised in a wealthy family and traveled extensively from a young age, masterfully translating the exotic landscapes and sensibilities of various lands into his perfumes. The scent of fur and frankincense, which he cherished throughout his life and which his successor Félicie Vanpouille later favored, along with the exciting, special imagery of Christmas, became the inspiration for "Nuit de Noel."

The original bottle was crafted from Baccarat's jet-black crystal, housed in a case resembling an Indian tobacco box wrapped in shagreen (sharkskin). A gold belt around the bottle was inspired by the decorative headbands popular among young people at the time.

The fragrance profile of "Nuit de Noel" is Oriental Floral. Its base notes feature "Mousse de Saxe" (oakmoss), an animalic note that was considered difficult to formulate in the 1920s. A rich floral bouquet of rose, ylang-ylang, and jasmine is masterfully blended, resulting in a warm and sensual aroma.
