Recreating Charlotte Perriand's Masterpiece, 'House on the Water'
Louis Vuitton has recreated "La maison au bord de l'eau" (House on the Water), the masterpiece by French architect, designer, and photographer Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999). It was unveiled at Art Basel Miami Beach.

A Pioneer Architect Who Mastered Her Era
Louis Vuitton, who chose Charlotte Perriand as the muse for its 2014 Spring/Summer Icon Collection, has produced her "phantom masterpiece." It was revealed at the global art fair, Art Basel Miami Beach.
Charlotte Perriand, who had deep ties with Japan, including a visit before the war, is known as a pioneering female architect who worked with Le Corbusier and designed numerous buildings.
About 80 years ago, in a competition hosted by the prestigious French architectural magazine "L'Architecture d’Aujord'hui" (Modern Architecture), Charlotte Perriand proposed the concept for "La maison au bord de l'eau" with the aim of popularizing affordable vacation homes. Her design won second place. Although she later worked on several more high-end versions, they remained conceptual and were never realized.

Consequently, detailed blueprints do not exist, and what remained only as sketches has been recreated by Louis Vuitton as part of the Icon project. Leveraging the expertise of Charlotte Perriand's architectural team, the concept was brought to life, with her designed furniture and other elements arranged within a simple interior to create an open space.
This collection sees Louis Vuitton pay homage to Charlotte Perriand with a range of colorful and interchangeable items. Additionally, within the Miami Design District,Louis Vuittonthe store has opened as a Perriand pop-up.

Charlotte Perriand, who exuded a radiant aura wherever she went and conquered the world by mastering her times, embodied elegance. Her vision of elegance, 80 years later, is realized on the beaches of Miami and in the Louis Vuitton collection.
