A New Heroine for the Brand's Icon, "Bamboo"!

The new icon bag, "Bamboo Shopper," arrives from the 2013-14 Pre-Fall Collection. This new line features Gucci's signature bamboo handle, a motif that has graced many items throughout its long history.

This distinctive handle, crafted from bamboo, was born in 1947 from the innovative ideas and exceptional skills of artisans in Gucci's Florence workshop, who were grappling with material shortages in the post-World War II era. Among the limited available materials, they focused on bamboo, which could be imported from Japan at the time, and processed it for use as a handbag handle. The design, which highlighted the unique characteristics of bamboo such as its nodes and patterns, was groundbreaking, and at the time, celebrities worldwide were seen with this "Bamboo Bag." Since then, it has been cherished across generations, becoming a timeless classic.

The new "Bamboo Shopper" boasts a simple yet sophisticated design that emphasizes the textures of the bamboo handle and leather. It is available in calfskin, as well as options like jaguar-print haircalf and painted python. The color palette includes chic autumnal shades such as black, red, and light blue.

The script logo, inspired by Guccio Gucci's handwritten signature, and the vintage trademark "MADE IN ITALY," symbolizing craftsmanship, are lavishly rendered in gold, creating a ladylike finish befitting Gucci's Fall/Winter collection. The horizontally elongated silhouette, unusual for a bamboo-handled tote bag, is also a distinctive feature.

Particularly noteworthy is its exceptional functionality. With a wide gusset and ample capacity, it features four pockets of various sizes. Furthermore, the central divider doubles as a large zippered pocket, allowing for meticulous organization within the bag.
