Terumi Hagiwara | Focusing on the Second Seasons for Raf Simons at "Dior" and Hedi Slimane at "Saint Laurent"
Terumi Hagiwara's Fashion Days Vol. 77
Warhol, Magritte, and a Feast of Artists: Dior
It's fresh in our memory how the designer changes at two major houses dominated fashion news last season: Raf Simons at Dior and Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent. The Fall/Winter 2013-14 collections, the second for both designers, were presented in Paris.

A Devilish Girl Set to Rock: Hedi Slimane Explodes
Dior's second ready-to-wear collection designed by Raf Simons. Upon entering the venue, large, gleaming silver hot air balloons were lined up. Blue sky and white clouds spread out. Yes, it was the world of Surrealist master René Magritte. As each model appeared, their figures walking in the blue sky were projected onto the balloons. Dresses were printed with the faces and eyes of women drawn by Andy Warhol.
Monsieur Dior's first job upon arriving in Paris was as a gallery curator. There, inspired by many artists, he refined his aesthetic sensibilities. The collection also featured houndstooth dresses and bar jackets beloved by Monsieur. Humorous accessories, such as printed bags and rings shaped like eyelashes and fingernails, were added to the collection.
Girls with sharp eyeliner, striding to a rock rhythm, were the vision of Saint Laurent designed by Hedi Slimane. Mini skirts were paired with fishnet stockings and riding boots. The mini dress with a white collar also evoked a startlingly impish image. Smoking jackets and rider's blousons were also made dramatically youthful. It was a collection that fully unleashed Hedi Slimane's world.
