The Legendary Supermodel, Jean Shrimpton
Do you know Jean Shrimpton, considered one of the first supermodels? Bursting onto the scene from London in the 1960s, she was known as "Shrimp" for her slender, Bambi-like limbs. While an extraordinary beauty, she also possessed an approachable charm, like the "girl next door." She collaborated with photographer David Bailey, creating numerous groundbreaking fashion photographs.
Most revolutionary was Shrimpton's appearance at a fashion show during the 1965 Australian horse races. For the event, she wore not only a miniskirt that bared her knees but also eschewed gloves, hats, and stockings. This attire, unthinkable by the standards of the time, caused a global sensation and garnered immense support from the younger generation. It is said that upon seeing this reaction, Mary Quant immediately began designing miniskirts.
By now, you may have realized that it was Shrimpton, not Twiggy, who sparked the miniskirt boom. This is why she is called the "face of the 1960s."
