A Special Show Held on Escalators
The Spring/Summer 2013 collections have concluded in Milan and Paris. This season, the torso line is particularly striking: vertical paneling, straight and long. LOUIS VUITTON presented its collection solely in Damier on the final day of Paris Fashion Week, in a specially constructed venue.LOUIS VUITTONDamier, of course, is the iconic checkerboard pattern synonymous with Vuitton. The tent for the venue was a giant Damier pattern, as was the floor. Four long escalators were installed.
The first look was a yellow and white Damier suit. The full-body Damier suit hugged the form without distorting the pattern. The Damier pattern enveloped the rounded silhouette, revealing a clever couture technique. It was both simple and delicate. Four escalators, like chess pieces, transported models up and down. Bags and shoes matched the clothing, with various sizes of Damier patterns continuing throughout. Paired with solid, plain pieces, these ensembles would create a wonderful sense of depth. The entire show of 62 looks concluded in just six minutes, but it was a deeply impressive performance that left a lasting impression.
