New Realism with Dior's Iconic Pieces
Modern Couture Finished with Ballet Flats: Dice Kayek

Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture Collection

2016 began with a series of designer changes at luxury brands. Established houses are striving to make couture's elegance their brand identity, while staying close to ready-to-wear. Young and mid-career designers are shifting from ready-to-wear to couture. These two poles are energizing Paris couture.

Dior: A Team of Seven After Raf's Departure

This is the Spring/Summer 2016 Haute Couture Collection. Following the October ready-to-wear shows, Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, Raf Simons at Dior, and Alber Elbaz at Lanvin all stepped down, marking a new era for these houses.

Dior presented its collection in the courtyard of the Musée Rodin, as usual, within a giant, mirrored tent reaching 10 meters in height. This season's collection was created by the design team.

A décolleté top with a deep neckline is paired with a skirt featuring patchwork embroidery and lace. The iconic Bar jacket appears in a lighter, more wearable form, with subtle animal prints also making an appearance. A sheer dress crafted from black lace and tulle is finished as a light, real-life black dress. It was a quiet, understated collection. The finale featured the seven young members of the design team. We eagerly await the arrival of a new creative director.

Modern Couture Unattainable with Stilettos: Dice Kayek

Dice Kayek presented a collection of charming, well-crafted pieces. After a 20-year career in ready-to-wear, the designer Ece Ege launched her couture collection three years ago. 'I want to create a collection that fast fashion can never replicate,' she says. Her voluminous flared dresses, with seams artfully concealed, embody this philosophy. Peplum tweed jackets are layered with capes and flares, paired with voluminous skirts or cropped trousers. A crisp white blouse tied with a large bow, and cocoon blouses with puffed sleeves create beautiful silhouettes. Ballet flats ground the looks, accentuating Dice Kayek's elegance. This is modern couture that cannot be achieved with stilettos.
