Jil Sander Explores New Territory with Couture Sensibility

The Milan 2012 S/S collections have begun. This past fall, the influence of the 1960s was strongly evident... So, what about next spring and summer?

Jil Sander is charting new territory with a couture sensibility. Centered around the brand's iconic white shirt, the collection presented a pure vision, ranging from shirt dresses to wedding gowns.

The cotton poplin shirt dress features layered horizontal tucks to create variations in the opacity of the white fabric. An inner collar creates a trompe-l'oeil effect. The silhouette is lean and long, suggesting that a feminine form will be in demand for spring and summer. A skirt in paisley cut jacquard and an intarsia knit with Picasso art motifs add touches of color. A knit cap designed in collaboration with Steevens Jones, topped with a veil, is a charming accessory that I'm eager to try.

Bottega Veneta's "Clothes to Uplift the Spirit"

Bottega Venetashowcased vibrant colors like red, orange, green, and brown. "I wanted to create clothes that uplift the spirit," said Creative Director Tomas Maier.

The materials, featuring layered cotton, patchwork with vinyl, and chiffon drapery embellished with stitching and embroidery, are meticulously crafted yet feel light. The I-line top paired with a pleated skirt evokes a desire to swing. The pleated skirt looks like an item to covet for the first days of spring.
