Achieving Feminine Sexiness and Elegant Dignity Simultaneously
Ai Tominaga is a globally recognized figure in the fashion world, particularly in haute couture. Since her debut at age 15, she has collaborated with numerous top brands, establishing herself as a leading model representing Japan. As many know, she is not only a model but also a mother and an active supporter of WFP (World Food Programme), engaging in various charitable endeavors.
She is a true role model, embodying a lifestyle that balances the enjoyment of fashion, time with family, and a commitment to a sustainable society.
Giorgio Armani's creations are perfectly suited for such a woman of substance. Consider the jackets, meticulously designed to flatter the female form, creating exquisite lines. These signature pieces offer an air of elegant authority without compromising femininity. Though seemingly simple, they reveal and enhance a woman's intrinsic allure through a process of subtraction rather than addition, achieving a harmonious blend of sensuality and dignity.
For this feature, we had Ms. Tominaga wear pieces from Giorgio Armani's Spring/Summer 2012 collection for a fashion shoot. Afterward, we spoke with her about Giorgio Armani.
—What was your impression of Giorgio Armani?
TominagaBefore I started modeling, I knew nothing about any brands. I learned about Armani in my teens, after I began modeling. I had a very mature image of it – something for a sophisticated woman to wear.

—Did you start learning more about it after you began walking in shows?
TominagaYes, I think it was the Spring/Summer 2002 collection. It was a little while after I started expanding my activities overseas. I was very happy, as Armani is a major figure among many brands. When I actually participated in the shows, I felt it was very sophisticated and set apart from other brands.
Unusually for someone of his stature, Mr. Armani stays backstage until the fitting is complete. He might be the only one who oversees the entire process from start to finish. He himself is very powerful and pays meticulous attention to every detail. He has a clear vision of what he wants to achieve and is likely a perfectionist. Yet, he also greets my friends when they come to watch the show, showing he is both a perfectionist and a grounded, sincere person.
—Giorgio Armani's clothing – what are your impressions?
TominagaArmani's clothing truly resonates with women who possess inner substance. Even during the shows, I noticed that the casting of models wasn't based on current trends, but rather on his own discerning sense, unswayed by fads. Yes, I believe these clothes suit women who are confident in themselves, unperturbed by external influences. There's a 'timeless quality' in the best sense of the word.
—How did you feel wearing the Spring/Summer 2012 pieces today?
TominagaThe patterns and construction were different from other brands, and they were indeed very easy to wear. The materials were also excellent. These aspects, I felt, were truly characteristic of Armani. He must have a deep understanding of the human body. I believe it's all calculated to make the wearer look truly beautiful.

—If you were to recommend one item from today's selection to our readers, what would it be?
TominagaProbably the jacket and pants, right? They make the body look beautiful, and they exude femininity and grace. They really bring out one's best features. I especially recommend the jacket because it beautifully accentuates the neckline. The collar and shoulder lines are unique. The neck is a very important part for women, and I think Giorgio understands that very well.
