What Does Fashion Say About the Meaning of a "Rich Life"?
Inspired by Henry David Thoreau's book "WALDEN," MIHARAYASUHIRO's Spring/Summer 2011 season presented a highly message-driven collection that explored the meaning of a "rich life" by depicting the lives of people living within two distinct worlds: nature and society.

What Did the Protagonist of "INTO THE WILD" Feel and Seek?
Just as the author of the theme, Henry David Thoreau, retreated from society to live a life of complete self-sufficiency, narrating the threats and blessings of nature, this collection portrays individuals navigating between the contrasting "forests" of nature and society.
Ponchos and blousons made from raincoat material, floral camouflage that formed the foundation of the hippie movement, green military wear woven with Navajo patterns, and coats adorned with stoles made from pin-check fabric typically used for outdoor wear – these active items evoke a sense of life in the wilderness. Conversely, scenes depicting people living in the "forest" of society featured American contemporary jackets and items made from damaged silk, expressing individuals moving briskly through the city with an emphasis on lightness and softness.
Additionally, the collaboration accessories with Husam El Odeh, launched in 2009, featured survival items wrapped in hand-dyed leather, appearing as suspenders. These elements were also incorporated into broken t-shirts.
"WALDEN"—What did the protagonist of "INTO THE WILD," who read this book, feel and seek in his final moments? Mihara Yasuhiro posed the question: how do we create a rich life, centered around American society, which served as the basis for this season's theme? This is not a critique of our current state of development aimed at becoming wealthy. He suggests that individual ways of being create inner richness. Perhaps changing one's way of life, prompted by clothing, is a possibility? This collection strongly conveys the potential of fashion.
